We've probably already done this, but only in a brief way. I can recall attending one of the first RuneFests I attended there was the VR version that could be played which was fun. It's my opinion with OSRS Accounts that at the moment VR isn't something we're currently investigating. It's for me about where you can go to discover new generations of RuneScape players. We strive to find out the players we have.
It's odd, but RuneScape is one of those games that you'd like to be available from anywhere, regardless of what you're working on, and what it is you're on. We're currently exploring alternatives that will work well. There are certain issues with games such as Xbox and PlayStation with regards to controls, however with the Switch, which has been equipped with touchscreens, we've completed some groundwork too.
Nothing is guaranteed or promised However, I'd love to see it on the market. We often talk about cross-play being important, but for me, it's a game that should be played everywhere you go, regardless of what platform you're playing. Thus, nearly "platform non-agnostic" is my ideal for the future of gaming.
I'm 100% convinced that's what we're headed in the near future. I'm constantly telling the mobile team that we'll eventually grow beyond mobile teams. It could be that we'll become"The "cross-platform group" or something like that, but I'm always telling them RuneScape is an endurance race, not the same as a sprint. We've been in operation for 20 years and have seen constant improvements over the last 20 years. This is getting better and we're playing on more platforms and we're working to make the game more accessible and understandable to a wider audience for the next 20 years.
There's been a lot of changes in the industry of entertainment all around regarding the way people consume content and the methods used to pay for it. With the advent of services such as Netflix the world is away from ownership of content, but more of a service. This is really fascinating for us since we've traversed that entire journey.
As I've mentioned that we were a subscription-based game, and we survived the entire journey through subscriptions to being free play. In the end, we're placed to offer the game that is a service and, as you're aware it's an ongoing connection to our customers. I believe that we'll witness more of it when it comes to games that cross-platform. I believe that RuneScape is well-positioned to benefit from that and is something I'd want to see us delve into.
I'd say that in the coming years, we'll likely focus on creating RuneScape more cross-platform which will make it an even more modern experience in addition, maybe making it more polished by giving it a more 2020s design rather than a look that resembles the 2000s.
The upcoming mobile launch of RuneScape in June will see the Jagex team looking for a broader and cross-platform future for the game. Although moving the menu-driven MMO to non-PC hardware can lead to some issues, it's an already in progress. Discovering as many methods as feasible to bring players onboard isn't a brand new concept for Jagex and it's one of the reasons why it is a great approach to the future of its games.
In an Rsorder conversation with Product Manager Matt Casey and Senior Product Director Liam Powney, they said the mobile development team with OSRS Power Leveling of the company could be transformed into an all-platform team. RuneScape has its sights set on higher-end platforms isn't any way surprising.
